I do believe I came with a … pen?

Welsh butcher, William Lloyd Williams flouted royal protocol when collecting his MBE from the Queen by wearing a pen above his ear on Friday. Receiving the accolade for his service to the meat and livestock industry, he cleared his unusual accessory with Buckingham Palace before the ceremony.

Like all traditional butchers, Mr Williams is known to never be without his pen. Of his trademark accoutrement he said, “The one time I didn’t have a biro when I needed it was my wedding day.”

When questioned, by actress Sue Johnston of television programme, The Royle  Family if he was aware of the pen he replied, “The Queen might want a turkey, so I’ll need to know what size she wants.”

Unsurprisingly, Mr Williams’ wife did not approve.
