Sure, share prices in alcohol stocks have risen overnight and all of the emergency rooms have been put on high alert since I arrived in New York yesterday, but this? New York City’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene announced the winner of its NYC condom competition. Out of 600 entries, 5 finalists were chosen and the winner was determined by a panel of judges.
After more than 15,000 online ballots made through NYC condom’s Facebook page and the Health Department’s website, the winning entry is Luis Acosta’s ‘Power Button’, which received more than 23% of the votes. Acosta’s design which depicts an electronic power button on the condom package, is meant to symbolize New Yorkers’ power to take control and practice safer sex. the winning design will grace the wrapper of a special limited edition of the NYC condom which will be unveiled in fall of 2010.
Now, we all know of my penchant for buggery hats, and I think the second-place winner was suitably deprived. One should always put a hat on one’s little fella and personally, I think the design is a little more subtle than a phallus entering a circle. Eww.
In case your wondering the precise etiquette when suggesting a prophylactic, the rule is there’s always a good time to suggest wearing one. If your bedmate expresses dismay at covering up, or worse, outright refuses to wear one, roll over, strap on your (sock) suspenders and get the heck out of there. STIs are so unchic.
