Single-portion wine glasses to avoid picnic mishaps

At the weekend I found myself at what I could only deem a ‘bobo’—bourgeois-bohemian—picnic in Paris’ 19e arrondissement. Kids with their backsides hanging out of their torn jeans despite wearing designer underpants, an American Apparel mustard-coloured tights overload and enough indie attitude to put Bonnaroo to shame. All this plus a steep incline, bobo children battling with plastic swords and an errant chihuahua by the name of Star made it exceptionally difficult for my rosé stay where it should have been: in its glass and not on the grass.

Britain’s Marks and Spencer now offers their M&S Le Froglet wine in single-serve plastic wine glasses with a peel-off lid, for the times you decide to have an “impromptu picnic”. It’s not the first time that an alcoholic beverage traditionally served from a bottle has had unconventional packaging: Francis Ford Coppola’s sparking wine, Sofia is available in a soda can version.  Available in Shiraz, rosé, or chardonnay each glass retails for £2.25 (around US$3.30). Sure, the concept might seem a little gauche, but isn’t that what they first said about home delivery?
