At the tender age of five–when the shorts I wear now would have been considered trousers–I fell in love. She never knew I existed but I am sure that had we been introduced we would have spent a lovely afternoon in the sandpit together. I am, of course, speaking of She-Ra of Masters of the Universe. Yes, that sandy blonde-haired Amazon woman with incestuous tendencies really knew how to get my Lego into a twist. I don’t even know what that means.
No wonder my delight when I discovered this little gem: a winged dagger kitchen knife by the appropriately-named Israeli designer, Shira Keret. A recent graduate from Jerusalem’s Bezalel Academuy of Art and Design, Shira has created the ultimate implement for the culinary superhero. Made with silicon wings and a ceramic blade, anyone can slice and dice with panache.
Fortunately for the younger (and the present) me, this dagger wasn’t invented when it would have been the perfect accoutrement with which to stab myself in the heart defiantly when that harlot, She-Ra entered into some weird love affair with her brother (!), He-Man. By then, I’d already moved onto Inspector Gadget’s daughter, Penny–the thinking boy’s girl germs symbol.*
