Play with Your Food

I’ll never forget the day one of my school friends was invited over for lunch and we sat down to a meal of my mother’s famous meatloaf. Now, don’t go scrunching your nose up at the thought of meatloaf. Sure, it’s a kitsch throwback to the 1970s, but you haven’t tried this particular recipe with its secret ingredient: LSD. I jest, of course, but if it were the case, it would explain why I’m such a whack-job and why there’s a leprechaun dancing a jig at the end of my desk. I digress.

So, the aforementioned (now former) school friend horrified my entire family when he was served his requisite two slices of meatloaf and proceeded to cut them into tiny pieces then push them around the plate until they were doused in tomato ketchup—how gauche! Needless to say, playing with one’s food was a punishable offence in my von Trapp family crisis; and it’s with great pleasure I can pull a Rolf and blow the whistle on the quirkiest ways one can be sent to one’s room without pudding.
