One week down and fifty-one to go; 2011 is already in full swing and many of us are already being put to the test, somewhat unnecessarily. Why we choose to annually tortue ourselves over an idyllic regimen of improved behaviour escapes me, yet it’s that new leaf in that big old tome called life we all choose to flip.
Some of us opt for the ascetic after a year of debauchery, others the immoderate after living like a monk for what seems an eternity. Some aspirations are attainable—eat, drink and smoke less, others farcical—marry a sultan and buy the Third World. Either way, our great expectations for the year to come are never beyond reproach.
This year, I’ve kept mine simple, dividing my career and life aspirations and setting small achievable goals in each; all based around the lyrics of Charlene’s “I’ve Never Been to Me”. While I’m yet to visit Nice and the Isle of Greece and sip champagne on a yacht, I’ve definitely seen some things that a woman isn’t supposed to see—and the year is still young!
See for yourself:
So this brings us to a little poll—the first in a while. How are you going managing your expectations of 2011? Vote below.
