Since knitting needles became contraband on commercial aircrafts, the crafty jet-setter has been left with idle hands on long-haul flights. Knit none, purl none; there’s only so much origami one can do with a paper napkin before abject boredom sets in The Stitching Postcards by designers Leihener, Seng, Valder change that, allowing travellers to stitch their journey onto topographical postcards and share it with their loved ones.
With maps of six different countries and one of the world, notable cities are marked as destinations with the included needle and thread as a souvenir for those at home. For $10 for a set of two from UncommonGoods, they’re a novel idea that sure beats the cheesy schlock available from most tourist destinations. If sewing is a strength but regular correspondence is not, herein lies the real challenge: beating the postcard home!
