Friday (Wedding) On My Mind

Dear Agony Uncle,

I’m planning a wedding for early next year and I’m wondering what your thoughts are on having it on a Friday. I’m hoping for the first Friday of 2012, at which time lots of people will still be on leave, but is it a bit much to expect those that are back at work to have a day off?

Dear Not-So-Bridezilla,

Although weddings are reserved traditionally for the weekend, there’s no rule of etiquette to state you cannot host it on a Friday or a Tuesday afternoon for that matter. Often securing that perfect venue can be problematic; many requiring years’ notice or a promise of your first born to do so.

The Friday wedding can longer be considered the cheapskate’s choice as we live in an era of too many brides and too few a weekend. Until the day when combining a christening, a wedding, a bah mitzvah, a graduation, a housewarming and a virgin sacrifice into one event is commonplace, we’ll just have to make do.

Pitching the wedding to your guests as a long weekend away should be enough to ensure you have high attendance. Those back at work shall welcome the opportunity to skive off for a day and those still on vacation might still be going from New Year’s Eve and will welcome an open bar! Fortunately you are sufficiently organised to have already begun your planning now, giving your guests enough notice to plan to take leave or peel themselves from the floor.

I do believe there’s more for you to read:
