No doubt you’ve sat those weary haunches of yours in Mies van der Rohe’s “Barcelona” chair (or something resembling it) whilst waiting to meet with the editor of a fashion magazine, sipping on a martini before lunchtime in your advertising job or just generally living the highlife in your glorious home. Designed in 1929 for the German Pavilion, its design desirability has lasted nearly a century and has spurned a variety of knock-offs of differing quality and deception capability.
The following documentary by Daniel Kuruna gives you the rundown of the history of the famed chair that will soon have you an expert of one of life’s most sought-after objects. Sure, each chair is worth upwards of $5,000 (and the ottoman, $2,000) but in life whether it’s furs, Rolexes or furniture, you should always say no to faux.
