Newswordy is a new site that celebrates buzzwords used in the media. Its focus is on words that don’t typically occur in normal speech but are common with the information elite like newsreaders and pundits on cable news.
Updated each weekday, the site showcases one of these buzzwords with a definition as well as examples of it being used correctly, misused and or used out of context. It also contains links to a Twitter and Google News search for each word and has a design to die for.
In celebration of words, here’s three nice ones that I beseech you to consider using this week just because a good vocabulary is attractive. Would I lie to you?
- fugacious: fleeting; transitory – Her beauty was amazing but alas, fugacious.
- defenestrate: throw someone out a window – After he slept with my girlfriend, it was only a matter of time before I defenestrated Algernon.
- mellifluous: sweet, pleasant-sounding speech, words or music – Lady Gaga’s new album is not as mellifluous as I’d hoped.
