At the end of the day, quite apart from the emotional heartache of mediocre movies like The Break-Up, divorce is anything but glamorous. Just as William Morris said, “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” One can also infer that if something is not glamorous it should be done as quickly as possible, that is to say, you should “Have nothing in your life that is not achingly glamorous or ennui-filled but done quickly.”
Which brings us to the Dutch Heartbreak Hotel, a service that claims to be able to sort out a divorce over a single weekend for only EUR 2,499. The fee covers a separate bookings for each individual in five-star luxury hotels, the paperwork handled by the company, financial consultants, legal advice, and even if needed, child psychologists. At the end of the weekend, finalised documents are presented to the couple for signing and the divorce can be filed at court.
Currently only offered in the Netherlands and Belgium, glamorous divorcées in the making need this service elsewhere.
