To anyone who considers themselves a gastronome, the Michelin Red Guide is what Being Your Best: Tina Yothers’ Guide to Girls is to pubescent devotees of Family Ties and pouffed fringes—a bible. Known for its coveted star rating system, chefs the world over clamour to be in its illustrious pages and diners flock to the restaurants nominated like over-eaters to a free buffet.
Architect and designer, Albert Schrurs of Allegory has created a collection of 30 dinner plates that assemble a map of France, denoting the locations of the country’s Michelin-starred restaurants. Conceived in Switzerland, the set will be produced in a limited edition by Bernardaud, the French Limoges porcelain manufacturer. Mr Schrurs says, ”My project is a tribute to both the amazing road network and gastronomy. By juxtaposing the 30 different plates (5 different sizes), we discover a giant map of the French roads and best restaurants.”
So, if the simplicity of roadmaps and GPS units are far too pedestrian for you, perhaps a gastronomic tour of Gaul is on the agenda. Alas, there are no plans for a Hellenic version, for we all know what Greeks like to do with their plates.
