Guerrilla Nuptials: Pop-Up Chapels Celebrate New York Marriage Equality

Are you so totally excited about marriage for same-sex couples now being legal in New York, that you want to dress like a rainbow and sing “Going to the Chapel” on public transport? Who isn’t?

The latest wonderfulness to arrive in New York are pop-up chapels, the first of which will appear this weekend at Merchant’s Gate in Central Park. A design competition won by two different ideas: ICRAVE designed a chapel with a metal frame enclosed by white ribbon, with a mesh ceiling hung with a bunch of ribbons, which are handed out to the married couples afterwards as a souvenir. Z-A Studios went green with stacked cardboard modules forming a tulip chapel structure, alongside benches and tables.
