I’ll be the first to admit that I strongly dislike queuing, so much that I won’t even contemplate doing it unless it’s for something really important. Nightclubs: Forget it. The bank: What’s wrong with online banking? The delicatessen while waiting to buy a large amount of ham: Oh, alright. Of course, all scales are relative and when it concerns porcine products, sure, waiting to devour a tasty quadruped isn’t ideal, however, the result is well worth the wait. If only someone could do the waiting for you.
New app, Qminder is a queue management system akin to the take-a-ticket dispensers found in bakeries and banks alike. Without having to wait physically in a line, users can download application for their compatible iPhone, iPad, Android or Nokia smartphone and take a number from wherever they might be, presumably doing more important things than waiting in a queue. Qminder then estimates the wait time and sends a notification to the user when their slot is approaching; commonly known as the time to pull on a pair of pants.
