Sharing Meals with Strangers: Colunching Goes Global

There’s some mother’s advice you should always take heed of, like not swimming after having just eaten or not sleeping with the help, but sometimes her guidance is meant to be ignored. After all, mother never said you shouldn’t dine with strangers.

A new initiative in cooperative dining, Colunching was started in Paris last year by French entrepreneur (so he’s doubly French, and doubly entrepreneurial by virtue), Frédéric de Bourguet. With over 9,000 members on their site, strangers and soon-to-be friends meet for lunches, dinners and brunches together ever day.

Launched in New York, it has recently been wheeled out to Australia with its first event in Melbourne tomorrow night, and lunches in Brisbane on Friday and in Sydney on Sunday. Not a bad idea if you’re new in a city or need to make friends or if you’re done with your existing friends and need to replace them.
