Shotgun Hair: Lock, Stock & Barrel

Shotgun Hair: Lock, Stock & Barrel

When it comes to my hair, I’m very particular about what goes on or even near it. It’s not like I’ll dodge an affectionate pat, but when you have as much hair as a Filipino dictator’s wife, you tend to be particular. Finding a new hair product is always a challenge for any gentleman, so I’ll admit to being sceptical when receiving a (hair) care package from foreign shores, however, like all things good and licentious behaviour, worth consideration.

Recharge Super Moisturising and Conditioning Shampoo

Naturally, it would be worth discussing the product of which I was most sceptical first; and I’m sure many would agree when they hear the words “two-in-one”. For me, I’m reminded of Pert: the aqua green bottle proclaiming luscious locks in one step. Every house was bombarded with samples in the mid-Nineties, each with the telltale scent of mediocrity. However, I was pleasantly surprised by London’s Lock Stock & Barrel’s offering: the Recharge Super Moisturising and Conditioning Shampoo.

While it took some time to master the precise amount of “processing time” as was recommended—essentially the ability to wash every other body part before a final rinse—I found it’s beauty was in it’s simplicity. Although your hair won’t whip around you like a Pantene commercial, it is sufficient to give most men an on-the-go and thorough cleansing whilst removing product build-up and any small families who might have taken up residence since the last wash.

85 Carats Grooming Clay and Ruck Matte Putty

Men’s styling products are a dime a dozen and finding one that suits often requires much experimentation resulting in bathroom cabinets filled with discarded flotsam. Often they’re too sticky or too firm or too Lego man, so one must be discerning with their golden locks.

Then of course, various occasions call for various styles much like those events that require a jacket and tie, and those an inoffensive polo shirt. There’s messy-but-corporate, dishevelled dandy, clean-cut miscreant, plus a host of other contrasting fashions. The ability to choose between the finish of your hairstyle upon a whim is a luxury every bouffanted man should have.

If the sleek-but-textured look is your thing, then the Ruck Matte Putty is essential. It gives hold and defines your hairstyle without weighing it down, allowing movement with an element of control. The 85 Carats Grooming Clay is better suited to those with fine hair who want additional texture and movement without the rigidity of thicker putties. Both wash out well in water and have a pleasant smell of musk stick lollies. What is an advantage of both, along with the shampoo is their convenient size, making them easy to transport without bulk for gentlemen who travel frequently.

Overall, Lock Stock & Barrel‘s range is comprehensive whilst remaining no-fuss—even the packaging has an understated, masculine design. However, what is contained is a quality product worth investigating. Products are available from Space M ranging from $22.50-25.50, which is rather well priced. Give it a shot.
