Old-World New Technology: The Ceramic iPhone Gramophone

They say everything old is new again, and if that’s indeed the case, then I’m feeling very new. Or fresh. Or new. You see, I’ve decided to try a little social experiment where everything that would normally be referred to as ‘fresh’ is actually ‘new’. New bread, new fruit, a new breeze. You get the picture. Or if you don’t, I swear I haven’t been drinking. However, I do digress.

Here is the latest fancy home accessory from Italian designers, en&is: a ceramic gramophone bugle of sorts. Hand-fired and seated on handmade timber tripod, it uses your iPhone’s or iPod Touch’s loudspeaker to amplify the sound the good old-fashioned way—sans electricity. It’s avaiable in three colours and wouldn’t look out-of-place on your kitchen bench as much as on top of the Swiss Alps. What a new idea!
