The Cheese Platter Reinterpreted: A Paris Exhibition for Fromage Fanatics

It’s no secret we have an affinity for all things fromage and when an object harks tradition yet has the bite of the sharpest Jersey, we can’t help but take notice. The Milk Factory invited six designers—5.5 DesignersF.X BalléryGermain BourréStéphane BureauxClaudio Colucci and Julie Rothhahn—to redesign the cheese platter for the exhibition, “Design sur un plateau” (“Design on a Platter”). According to the organisers, “France has an important gastronomical heritage and is full of specialty cheeses. It is these cheese regions, this indispensable land of culture and agriculture that’s needed to feed these animals we have sought to promote.”

For example, the work from 5.5 Designers—a cheese platter designed to in bright hues of green—is designed to “represent the origin of cheese: shaped liked the parcels of land where the grass grows, which feeds the cattle, which provides the milk, from which cheese is created.” All we know is it’s pretty and harbours one of our favourite foodstuffs.

The exhibition is on now in Paris until 14 January 2012.
