Sometimes being a gentleman of leisure has its stresses: Imagine my horror when I can’t find a bottle opener and I have to drink from a—gasp—screw-top bottle. Of course, I jest—I’m a gin man. That said, I do work hard and it’s evidenced by a twitchy eye brought about by a magnesium deficiency that initially appeared in the crazy luxury events world and might have been exacerbated by an excessive party lifestyle. Ah, the halcyon early-twenties.
Sometimes I think to myself that I should just go bush for a bit, participate in some ten-day, speak-to-no-one, eat-mung-beans, kill-nothing Vipassana silent meditation, but then I come to my senses and realise that I could possibly die from the shock. Besides, the economy would likely collapse from the dip in sales at the bottle shops in radius of Etiquette HQ.
So perhaps, I’ve found my Nirvana; a place where one can do yoga, sip cocktails and do more yoga, with the added flexibility that libations instil. That place is COMO Shambhala Estate. Located in Bali’s beautiful Ubud, it’s a relaxation wonderland with a très luxe hotel vibe. Nestled away, it has the privacy that the rainforest brings without the need for a compass, a guide and good dose of tenacity. With private suites, villas and multiple infinity pools, it’s an oasis to wile away the wrinkles, or bash out a one’s magnum opus, for example. Now who wants to sponsor my permanent residence? Anyone?
